Chery remains successfully on course in 1st half of 2019 New highs in EV sales and export figures Wuhu/China – Chery has closed the first two quarters with one of the best half-year results in its company history so far and continues to grow in July and August contrary to the trend of the Chinese market. More than 285,000 new registrations represent an increase of 8.5% compared with the same period last year. If the deliveries of the joint ventures are added, sales rise to 325,000 registrations. The good sales result was mainly due to the launch of new models of the two key series Tiggo and Arizzo as well as the strong performance of the sub brands Jetour and EXEED. «In an increasingly difficult market environment, Chery has stabilized worldwide, despite a declining market trend,» says Chairman Tongyue Yin. The positive trend was influenced, among other things, by the electrified models, which are becoming more popular, especially in China. «While many automotive start-ups are struggling to survive, Chery is on track to focus on new technology challenges and international growth,» Yin said. Business with so-called new-energy vehicles developed particularly well for the company, which was founded in 1997. In the first half of 2019, Chinese buyers focused much more on environmentally friendly models from the wide portfolio. The top seller is the Chery eQ1, of which 100,000 units were sold by June 24, just 28 months after the EV model came onto the market. The revised 2019 model was launched at the end of June, as was the export of the Arizzo 5e model to Central and South America. Meanwhile, Chery’s EV rate rose to over 12 percent, 7 percent above the current Chinese market average. Jetour got off very successfully. The new car brand was just founded by the Chery Holding in January 2018 and sold 55,000 vehicles with only three models from January to June. With 11 NEV models, the model range will be expanded in the coming months. For the technology brand EXEED, which was presented to the general public for the first time at the Frankfurt IAA 2017, the third model named LX, after TX and TXL, will be on display at the Chengdu Motor Show. 2 For the 17th year in a row, Chery is China’s number one automobile exporter. Compared to the same period of the previous year, export figures already show an increase of 10% in the middle of the year. Chery is successfully represented in markets in Asia, South America, North Africa and the Middle East. Since autumn 2018, Chery Europe GmbH has also been present in Europe, where the fourth R&D centre worldwide is being established in Raunheim on the Main and where the global design management is also based. In addition, a current J.D. Power study underlines Chery’s claim to quality with top positions. Compared to last year, Chery has improved by 26 places. The Tiggo model series and New Energy vehicles scored very successfully. The Tiggo 2 and Tiggo 3, for example, are among the top performers in the small SUV segment, with the Tiggo 2 also winning a special award. Chery climbs to third place directly behind NIO and BMW in the New Energy brand ranking. The Chery eQ1 takes first place in the small EV segment. «Chery’s high quality standards make a decisive contribution to improving product strength and competitiveness, which in turn supports the brand image and sales,» explains Chairman Yin. The organic growth of Chery since its foundation in 1997 and innovative in-house developments are the driving factors behind the worldwide success of the Anhui-based group. To date, Chery has filed 17,899 patents, making it the leader in the Chinese automotive industry. Examples include new engine generations, highest safety standards and Chery’s own platform strategy.
